Guest Post: In Which there are Dark Desires

Today we’re celebrating with a fellow Insecure Writer’s Support Group member Ronel the Mythmaker, on the release of her newest eBook, Dark Desires. In fact, the idea for the book started with a prompt from the IWSG, so it’s definitely something for all of us in the group to be excited about!

In Ronel’s own words: In 2018, the IWSG held a writing competition for their annual anthology with the theme “Masquerade”. Instead of going for the obvious masquerade party (I had a fantastic idea for one, BTW, but decided it might be low-hanging fruit) I went for the masks we all wear in public – especially teenagers. And a story came to me with characters ready to play their part.

Feedback from my beta readers had been phenomenal. I knew that this story was good. But it didn’t exactly fit the theme for the anthology. Oh, well. But the themes, the story, the characters called out to be read by the world. So I had it edited and formatted. Then I published it.

The response from readers had been overwhelming. They love it. I’m so glad I allowed my characters to tell their story.

“I loved this magical tale, it was an awesome read that kept me guessing 🙂 Ronel effortlessly blends the world of the fae with themes any high school student, current or previous, would relate to, from crushes, to hiding who you are to fit in. Tasha is a strong female character with an entertaining inner monologue. If you like folklore and YA short stories, you’ll love this.” —Lousie Brady, Goodreads review

Dark Desires

Iron and fae aren’t friends. But Tasha has no choice but to be in the human realm: her very life is at stake.

High School isn’t much safer than Faerie, though. Cliques, falling in love and navigating day-to-day activities are dangerous enough without the added dread of being unmasked as being otherworldly.

But when something happens and everyone reveals their true selves, Tasha has a choice to make: will she save them from the curse upon them and reveal her true nature, or will she let them die and stay safe?
