Lets get to some maths for the year. I still genuinely have a lot of fun breaking my blogging year down in stats, although I acknowledge that this is boring for anyone other than myself or other book bloggers. Just as a note: I’ve spent zero pennies on marketing of any kind since I started this blog in November 2016. Instead, I’ve focused on blog-hops and building relationships. That means super slow growth and also super low stress levels.
(If slow is not the way you would want to grow your website, then these will not be very helpful posts for you, but you can totally stick around and read some . . . well . . . meaningless statistics anyway?)
Visitors in 2024: 2022 was the year to top, with 4,947 visitors. Did we beat it in 2024? Nope! But we’re still doing good with a respectable 3,654. That went up +200 visitors from 2023, which is ehhh, not bad. I’m happy with it.
Top 5 Posts from 2024:
To my complete lack of surprise, the number one post this year continued to be Book Tropes: The Grovel in the Novel with 728 unique views. This little beauty is the top post for the third year in a row. Authors, write a book with some emotional justice and grovel in it, is the takeaway here.
2. 15 Gorgeous Literary Tattoos held onto second position, same as last year. It’s one of my earliest posts, from 2017!
3. Coming in third, I’m delighted that one of my favorite book rec posts got plenty of love this year. Book Tropes: You Should See the Way They Look at You! made a good show for the pining trope.
4. Book Tropes: I Can’t Argue With you When You’re Sick! continued to prove that readers love spatting antagonists taking some time for a little vulnerability in their plot.
5. I Hate Everyone. Who Isn’t You held onto the exact same #5 spot, right behind the same #4 from last year. It fascinates me a) how popular the book trope posts are, and b) which tropes are more popular than the others. I would have thought sunshine/grump would be right up there behind groveling, but that’s my personal taste. Instead, readers click faster on pining, and then some good old enemies-to-lovers with vulnerability thrown in. INTERESTING!

Another book rec post. Not one of my absolute favorite tropes, per se, but one that often leads to my favorite tense situations, and that made Book Tropes: Oh No, Looks Like There’s Only One Bed my favorite post of 2024. Imagine me saying the title out loud with a HEALTHY dose of irony, and that should help.

The IWSG Has Unfounded Confidence in Me provoked an existential crisis centered around the mythos of BookBub and the possibility that actual readers existing on that website may be a fairy tale. Purely because it gave me the chance to write that sentence, and to mean it entirely without sarcasm, it’s my favorite underdog post of 2024.
