Time for another #TropeTuesday
This trope flavor du jour starts with a firm, succulent base of Brooding Big Bad. Spicy hints of Shades of Grey add to the morality, while robust kicks of Standoffish, Blunt, and Guarded finish the dish for a well-rounded palate. The discerning reader will love the fact that this character absolutely has no time for anyone in the world . . . except for that one, special someone they can’t resist. They are secretly (OH so secretly) soft and protective and sweet in the center. We stan.

#ChristmasInJuly means Terry Pratchett! Look, I don't make the rules. I just read all the Pratchett. It's not required for you to be a big enough nerd that you buy the Discworld atlas with full size fold out map (Great Star Turtle A'Tuin and elephants included). That was my personal, obsessive fan choice 😂 But you do have to read a Discworld novel in order to live a fully rounded bookworm life.

Mount TBR is as gigantic as ever, the paranormal romance paths are calling and I must go. But I'm staring down the barrel of two weeks of professional development. Y'all, we have one full day dedicated to the technology we will be working with and this is an OMINOUS SIGN. No one should need six hours of tech support presentations. Google classroom isn't that complicated, alright.
Do you think I can sneak a book in my bag? Or maybe my Kindle?

So this 1995 published book was a *wild* ride. Stay with me.
📚 Poor young Chris Copestakes is in a fatal car crash. God intercepts her in the "white light" and says, yo, that was super unfair. I'm going to send you back, but not to your body. You're going to save a marriage, to a stranger. Thanks! #IneffablePlan
📚 Chris wakes up in the (stunning) body of rich society wife Hallie. Hallie had an aneurysm and basically yeeted out of her own body at the perfect time for everyone.
📚 Hallie was a giant, selfish jerk. We get her backstory a bit and it helps but...she was a cheating, gold digging, backstabbing, terrible person.
📚 Chris now has to convince everyone that "Hallie" has changed her ways, and win back her husband. Falling in love with the wounded guy (whom "she" wounded!) is a huge complication.
I'll be honest, this one was a 3 star read for me. The premise was so intriguing. And the dual lives/new identity was pretty cool. But the way "Hallie's" husband handled everything made me want to knee him in the balls. He feels something is very different about Hallie/Chris after she wakes up in hospital but he constantly denies his own instincts, offers zero help but lots of snarky comments, and refuses to give her the benefit of the doubt for 80% of the book. He also nearly cheats himself, twice, because "why not, she did it to me". Okay, whiny baby man. By "nearly" I mean: things progress to topless kissing on the couch, which made me feel very squicky. If you can handle the multiple mentions of cheating from both sides, this book may still be a fun read for you.
There's also a side plot about who originally killed Chris, and why, which is kinda obvious and unbelievably handled. It doesn't add much to the story. I read it, said "wow", and took it to my local free library.
